Literature is usually a narrative, written by someone for consumption by an audience. We usually think of literature as a story written by OTHER people for US (because we're the consumers of it). But, it can also be something that you create. If we're talking about literature with a big "L," usually we're talking about the canonical Western texts like Dante or Milton or other sort of stuffy guys.

That's the difference between writing and Literature. Writing (as we mentioned) is for everyone and everyone has something to say. But traditional Literature says the exact opposite: only a few people are worthy to say anything and then somebody, some where decides if it's good or not.

LIterature are stories that help us to travel to places we might never physically get to go...

Literature connects us to the deeper stuff within us that we can't easily access. Literature forces us to see what's in us.

Literature is written word. We read it because we want to OR some one else wants us to. How' that for simplicity.
